F-22 Raptor (Cost, Top Speed, Weapons etc.)

The Lockheed Martin F-22 raptor is one o the first fifth generation aircraft in the world which entered to service in 2005.The production of F-22 raptor was cancelled by United states of America in 2011. Despite the fact that it was a basic part of the USAF (the United States Air Force), the rising turn of events and support costs, absence of aerial missions shut down the creation of the stream. Lockheed Martin passed on the last Raptor to the USAF in 2012.

Nevertheless The F-22 Raptor will be always a pioneer. This fighter jet is a combination of maneuverability, stealth and speed. It’s still considering the best stealth fighter which is less visible to radar due to its construction and extraordinary development.

When it comes to fighter jets and taking control of skies The United states Air force has some of the most technological advanced weapons in the world. The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor has the air dominance with its unique set of stealth, speed, agility, situational awareness combination and its lethal long range air to air and air to ground weaponry.

F-22 raptor History and Development

In 1985, the US Air Force began to focus on both its stealth and super cruise abilities, and by 1986, Lockheed and Northrop had been selected to enter a competition to build a new jet, which would replace the 15 fighter jets. Lockheed’s team completed their provisional WAF 22 model in 1990, and Northrop’s team completed their professional way of 23 model in 1991.

After an extensive testing period, the Lockheed YPF22 was deemed to be the winner because it was both stealthier and faster than the wife of 23. The first production, F-22, was unveiled April 9th, 1997, at a roll out ceremony by Lockheed Martin, Boeing and Pratt and Whitney. And by September 7th of the same year, the F-22 made its first flight in 2005, it formally entered service as the F-22 a after more than 3500 test flights over eight years and achieved full operational capability in December of 2007 during an exercise in Alaska. In June 2006, 12 f22 is down to 108 adversaries with no losses and in exercises amassed 241 kills against just two losses in air to air combat.

F-22 raptor Dimension

The F-22 measures 62 feet, one inch in length, with a wingspan of 44 feet six inches and stands 16 feet high and empty. It weighs forty three thousand three hundred forty pounds but has a max takeoff weight of eighty three thousand five hundred pounds. The body of the plane is made up of a significant amount of high strength materials to withstand stress and heat of sustained supersonic flight.

The aircraft consists of 39 percent titanium 64 and titanium six to double to 24 percent thermostat composites and 15 percent aluminum. Of all these, the thermostat composites are perhaps the most unique, being composed of approximately 50 percent epoxy resin and 50 percent Bismullah made their special material is what makes up all the F-22 is exterior skin, ensuring high strength and high temperature resistance.

To top this off, a number of thermoplastic composites that are highly durable have also been incorporated into the plane’s materials. However, due to them being extremely hard to implement, they’ve only been used on items that are opened frequently or that sustain regular damage from debris such as landing gear and weapon bay doors.

F-22 raptor Power-plant and Weight ratio

Regarding the wings, the F-22 raptor was designed with clipped delta wings with reverse trailing edge sweep and leading edge extensions running to the upper outboard corner of the inlet. Delta Wings are notable because the triangular form helps increase aerodynamics and enhances high speed during supersonic flight. The F-22 raptor is powered by two Pratt and Whitney F-119 100 augmented turbo fans that deliver 26000 pounds of thrust each and 35000 pounds of thrust with afterburner for a total of 70000 pounds of thrust. With that amount of power, the aircraft can achieve a maximum speed of Mach 2.5 and can super cruise at Mach one point eight two and has a service ceiling of 65000 feet.

The Raptor has a thrust to weight ratio that is nearly at unity with what would be considered to be the absolute maximum and its resulting high crew. Speed and operating altitude make it is extremely capable in surviving against ground defense such as surface to air missiles.

The secret to its incredible maneuverability is the presence of vectoring nuzzles in the F-22 is exhaust as they can redirect thrust more than 20 degrees up or down extremely quickly, allowing the jet to perform maneuvers that no other fighter jet can hold a candle to. Interestingly enough, it’s also largely thanks to these thrusters that the F-22 raptor has a typical combat speed of Mach one point five at 50000 feet with a maximum speed of Mach one point eight without using external stores and Mach two point to five when external stores and afterburners are utilized.

F22 raptor Radar and Ferry Range

To top it all off, the raptor F-22 has an impressive Ferry range of 800 miles, meaning that it can get from London to Moscow by air with distance to spare with its two external fuel tanks. The speed and range are complemented by an extremely advanced avionics system. The plane collects both sensor fusion and radar data from mechanisms located around the plane, with the most notable being a passive radar detector. With more than 30 antennas blended into the wings and fuselage for all round radar warning receiver coverage, this radar has a range of over 250 nautical miles, allowing the plane to detect far off threats and initiate several defense mechanisms.

It can then use the data collected to designate targets for allies and coordinate friendly aircraft. The plane also has low observable, active aperture, electronically scanned array that can track multiple targets under any weather conditions and can emit frequencies at more than 1000 times per second in order to avoid detection from enemies.

F-22 raptor Cockpit, Navigation and Display Panel

When combined with added features such as the F22 fighter jet is automatic ground collision avoidance system, it’s clear that the fighter jets avionics truly are elite. An analysis of the cockpit reveals some top of the line technology as well. The very first cockpit made completely out of glass. The monochrome head up display offers a wide field of view that’s displayed upon six color LCD panels. The jet is mainly controlled by a force sensitive side stick controller and a pair of throttles with radio functionality, communications, navigation and auto pilot data all being incorporated into one streamlined module. Best of all, the pilot is fully protected in case the situation within the jet becomes dire as they are required to wear a suit that protects against chemical and biological hazards, cold water immersion, counter G forces and low pressure at high altitudes.

When you then further consider that the F22 Fighter jet even comes with an ejection seat, it’s clear that it really was made with every possible emergency situation in mind. Last but certainly not least of the F22 Raptor’s armament supporting three main weapon base, the jet has a number of different types of armaments on board. One of the most impressive is its single twenty millimeter M6 one eight to Vulcan Rotary Cannon. The six barreled air cooled Gatling style cannon can fire twenty millimeter rounds at an insanely high rate of about 6000 rounds per minute. There’s firepower is supported by several onboard missiles, which are split up into two different loadout, depending on the mission.

Stealth

The F22 Raptor was designed to be highly difficult to detect and track by radar. The F22 Raptor is developed and designed to deceive its enemy. It’s very hard to detect and track by radar even naked eye too.

The F22 raptor is designed to reduce less radio, sound and heat emission so enemy cant track by any of these. The F22 Raptor’s thrust vectoring nozzle lessen the emission of the exhausts heat which reduce the chance of air to air missile tracking.
The F22 raptors radar absorbing material is highly effective against high frequency radars which is found on other stealth or military aircraft.

f22 raptor cost per hour.

f22 raptor cost per hour?

The cost of per flight of F22 is roughly $60,000

Which is faster f15 or f22?

Though F22 is a super stealth aircraft but F-22 has a top speed of 2.2 Mach which is slightly slower than the F-15 Eagle. But the F-22 cruises at Mach 1.6. It carries four AIM-120 and four AIM-9 missiles. It also has a 20mm M61 cannon.

Why is the f22 so slow?

The weapons storage of the F-22 makes it heavy than the F-15 which is the reason of more wave drag. Second, the intakes of the engine were not designed to operate at speeds above Mach 2, so pressure recovery in them drops at higher speed.

Can a civilian buy a fighter jet?

The answer is a surprising ‘yes! ‘. If the aircraft is demilitarized it can be bought by general public.
